International traffic from the Melita Data Centre in Madliena to mainland Europe is transited through diverse submarine cables, which terminate in Sicily at Pozzallo and Catania. Both Point of Presence (PoP) in Sicily are linked, enabling an end-to-end Layer 1 ring between Malta and continental Europe. Each Melita PoP in Sicily connects to two distinct PoPs in Milan via several protected Layer 2 links through mainland Italy. These high-capacity links are provided by diverse suppliers.
In Milan, Melita peers with the world’s largest Tier I internet providers, including Colt, Arelion, Cogent and Google. To further strengthen the quality of internet service in Malta, Melita’s AS12709 peers with other carriers and key global content providers on the Frankfurt Internet Exchange and the Milan Internet Exchange respectively.
