Built to Tier III specifications, the Melita Primary Data Centre in Madliena is the only purpose-built facility in Malta. It covers a total fully-fenced footprint of 10,000m2, making it the island’s largest facility.
This strategically-chosen site is a solitary building situated on high-ground. It is detached from the main traffic arteries, does not pose flooding risks and does not sit under any aircraft flight paths, thus meeting and exceeding the stringent levels of security required. Beyond that, the site is located just a few minutes away from the main business hubs of Sliema and St Julian’s, ensuring it is excellently connected to the power grid.
Our secondary Data Centre facility in Mriehel is built to the same strict technical specifications as our primary site in Madliena.
Strategically located within Melita’s Head Office in the fastgrowing Central Business Hub, the site is connected to our Madliena POP via two diverse high-capacity fibre optic cables fully owned and managed by Melita.
This secondary facility is PCI-DSS compliant and ISO27001 certified, making it an ideal alternative hosting site.
Melita is a carbon-neutral supplier. The carbon emissions from the electricity used to provide services and our daily operations are balanced by investments in international carbon reduction projects.
Melita has joined the United Nations’ Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This aims to achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement by reducing greenhouse gasses to a level which is predicted to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Our SBTi target is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030.
International traffic from the Melita Data Centre in Madliena to mainland Europe is transited through diverse submarine cables, which terminate in Sicily at Pozzallo and Catania. Both Point of Presence (PoP) in Sicily are linked, enabling an end-to-end Layer 1 ring between Malta and continental Europe. Each Melita PoP in Sicily connects to two distinct PoPs in Milan via several protected Layer 2 links through mainland Italy. These high-capacity links are provided by diverse suppliers.
In Milan, Melita peers with the world’s largest Tier I internet providers, including Colt, Arelion, Cogent and Google. To further strengthen the quality of internet service in Malta, Melita’s AS12709 peers with other carriers and key global content providers on the Frankfurt Internet Exchange and the Milan Internet Exchange respectively.
Covering an area of 10,000m2 Melita’s fully-fenced data centre is the largest on the island
